With a perfect location of being both right on the coast and at the edge of the South Downs National Park, Portsmouth and its surrounding towns have a whole host of fantastic walks to enjoy this spring.
Here are just some of our favourites:
13. Petersfield Heath and Lake
With its accessible paths around the Heath Lake and playground situated right next to the heath itself, Petersfield Heath is a great place to visit on a spring day - and the great news is that it even has a cafe, toilet facilities and a playpark Just make sure you bring food for the ducks and geese!Picture: Anne Purkiss Photo: Anne Purkiss
14. Harbour View, Gosport
Gosport boasts not only fantastic views of the Solent - but also the best views of Portsmouth too! And a spring stroll along the eastern shoreline will confirm this, starting at the Hardway Slip carpark area and following the path leading to Heritage Way, past the Explosion Museum towards Millennium Bridge. Once over the other side of the bridge you can even head beyond into Haslar and Alverstoke if the mood takes you. There are also plenty of places to stop along the way!Picture: Neil Harris Photo: Neil Harris
15. Cams Hall/Fareham Creek
A fabulous stroll along Cams Hall and Fareham Creek will certainly blow the cobwebs away this spring. You can take a short stroll along just part of the Creek, or park up at the carpark at the the end of Shearwater Avenue and then head for the water to then do an entire circuit along the coastline (and a bit on a road). Just watch out for a few golf balls! There is also the pub and the wonderful Dovecote to pop into for a drink and snack. If you are feeling adventurous the shoreline can be followed all of the way along to Portchester Castle.Taken by Alison Treacher Photo: -
16. Emsworth Mill Pond
The Mill Pond at Emsworth is the perfect place for a little spring stroll, complete with scenic views, ducks and swans and of course right next to a smattering of fantastic cafes for those wanting a drink and a slice of cake (or even an ice-cream). And if you fancy a longer stroll you can always go along the coastline as well.Picture by Roger Sandford Photo: -
