Maritime experts say Portsmouth port is 'ready' for Brexit - but warns traders face 'huge change'

THE city's port 'will be ready' for the challenges of a no-deal Brexit, maritime experts said, as they praised the initiative of its bosses.

Government ministers and members of the shipping industry were invited to hear the findings of a report detailing the economic impact of Portsmouth International Port during a parliamentary reception on Wednesday.

As reported, they heard how in 2017 Portsmouth International Port contributed £189m to the local economy and £390m to the national economy.

It also provided 5,590 jobs and handled almost four million tonnes of cargo.
