Nonagenerian from Emsworth writes autobiography
Joyce Spencer, a lifelong resident of Emsworth, has launched her book Tender Joy.
The 90-year-old recalls in the book, written alongside ghostwriter Edward Couzens-Lake, how, against her own wishes, she had to leave school when she was 14.

Hide AdThis was to start her working life, looking after two young children who lived close to her home at the time.
Despite her initial misgivings, Joyce flourished in the role and discovered a flair for looking after people.
She later became a nurse at St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth, working there as war raged around her.
It was a war that wrought destruction on a proud naval city, but failed to damage her resolve, said Joyce’s publicist.
